L1 Hands-on Project: Create Your "Personal Compass"

January 30, 2026

Instructions - (15 min to complete)

Objective: In this activity, you will use AI to act as your "Purpose Pathfinder." You will synthesize the insights from the previous lessons (Values and Strengths) into a single guiding document called your Personal Compass.

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients Before opening your AI tool, have the following ready (or write them down now if you haven't yet):

  • Your Top 3 Values: (e.g., Freedom, Creativity, Kindness)
  • Your Top 3 Strengths/Skills: (e.g., Writing, Listening, Analyzing Data)
  • What You Care About: (e.g., Helping animals, Teaching beginners, Solving tech problems)

Step 2: The AI Prompt Open ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude and paste the following prompt. Fill in the brackets with your details:

"Act as a supportive career and life coach. I want to build a 'Personal Compass' to guide my future decisions.
Here is my data:
Please combine these to draft 3 different 'Personal Mission Statements' for me. They should be inspiring, clear, and under 50 words each."
  1. My Core Values are: [Insert Values]
  2. My Top Strengths are: [Insert Strengths]
  3. The problems I care about solving are: [Insert Interests/Causes]

Step 3: Refine and Plan Choose the mission statement that feels most true to you. Then, ask the AI a follow-up question:

"I choose option [Insert Number]. Based on this mission, suggest 3 habits I should prioritize:
  1. One habit to STOP doing that holds me back.
  2. One habit to START doing to advance this mission.
  3. One habit to KEEP doing that supports this mission."

(Example Answer):

My Personal Compass

Mission Statement: "To use my talent for simplifying complex ideas (Strength) to empower beginners to learn new skills (Interest), honoring my need for creativity and integrity (Values)."

My Action Plan:

  • STOP: Saying yes to projects that don't align with my core values just to please others.
  • START: Writing for 20 minutes every morning before checking emails to prioritize creativity.
  • KEEP: Mentoring junior colleagues once a week, as it fulfills my desire to teach.
